Mahdi Shehu, an activist who is based in Katsina, has been accused of claiming that voting for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, is the same as voting for Biafra.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has issued a call for Shehu’ s arrest.
It was reported that Shehu had earlier cautioned Christians in the North not to vote for a presidential candidate who originated from the South in the next election in a video that went viral.
According to the activist who was born in Katsina, casting a vote for a Christian Southern candidate, especially the LP candidate will be equivalent to casting a vote for a secessionist and Biafra.
Shehu pointed out that people from the North who are Christians or Muslims, face discrimination in the South East, South West, and South- South regions of the country, regardless of their religious affiliation.
Meanwhile, in a statement released on Friday in response to Shehu’ s allegations about who to vote for, the national publicity secretary, Dr. Alex Ogbonnia, described Shehu’ s comments against the LP candidate as ” distasteful” and ” capable of ethnoreligious tensions across the country. ”
Ogbonnia pointed out that those with such ways of thinking are the ” pernicious incubus” that has been dragging the country down for a very long time.
